how-to tips

First off, watching videos over the internet is not as simple as using your DVR or TIVO at home.  Many factors come into play, such as your internet connection speed, how busy the web as a whole is and the strength of the server upon which any particular video is being hosted.

We recommend that you select the video you want to watch.  Then press the PLAY button and then press the PAUSE button.  While the video is loading you can prepare your favorite libation and 'nosh for enjoyment while watching the movie.  Then come back, make yourself comfortable and press PLAY again.  This delay should have allowed enough time for the video to buffer enough data into your 'puter to allow for smooth viewing but that is not a guarantee.

Our system connection varies between 12mbs (that's pretty fast) and over 28mbs (that's better than a T-2 line!) yet still we experience problems with occasional "stuttering" and more buffering before the video is over.  Oh well, feces occurs.

How fast is your connection?  CLICK HERE to find out.

If you select a video and instead of a player appearing you get just a white box, well that means the video has been removed from the host server for a multitude of reasons.  Should this occur we ask that you notify us immediately so that we can locate and install a replacement copy.  We can typically replace a video in less than 24 hours.  We'd do it faster but, gee, we have to sleep sometime.  Just click on the YOUR FEEDBACK button and fill in the form.  With over 1,000 videos on tap, it is virtually impossible for us to know about these bad links unless you notify us.  You also might see a white box if you do not have the DivX Web Player installed on your 'puter.

While we strive to present the highest quality videos available, we do occasionally present "pirated" copies of recent releases.  These are generally videos made by a camera inside the movie theater and are of low quality in both audio and video.  They are also highly illegal, at least in the USA.  We offer them as an enticement  to make a determination as to whether you want to spend your hard earned cash to see the film in a theater or not.  These "bootleg" videos also have an extremely short "shelf-life" on the web, as DMCA enforcers actively pursue their "seek and destroy" agenda.

We hope this has answered your questions.  If not, please feel free to send us a message and we will do our best to assist you.

Oh yeah.  Just one last thing.  The HOME THEATER CENTER does not host any of these videos.  We just find the links to them on the web and provide them here.  If you have a problem with a video appearing on the web you really need to contact the hosting server and file a complaint.  Most servers have a standard DMCA complaint form to be used by legally qualified representatives of the video.
